European Migration Network Study: Family Reunification of Third-Country nationals

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Family Reunification Directive, this EMN Inform explores the legal frameworks and practical approaches to family reunification for beneficiaries of international protection in EMN Member and Observer Countries. Published by the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, the study highlights differences in eligibility criteria, application procedures and documentary requirements, and addresses recent developments in European case law. It offers valuable insights into how countries handle reunification with children coming of age, dependent adult children, and the concept of a “real family relationship.”
